Flowchart Information
The charts above show some reactions between alcohols, carboxylic acids, alkanes, alkenes and halogenoalkanes. Some conditions are suggested for each route and reverse reactions are included where they exist. A flowchart involving the arenes is coming shortly.
Credit
The charts were created by Sam Davyson but they are a direct adaptation of David Such's flow charts which were originally made using the Nuffield Student's Book. The original charts were hand drawn, and can be seen here (PDF - 3MB).
Image Quality & Format
The quality of the charts is pretty variable. I have some ultra-high-resolution ones as PNGs and GIFs but they are not really very easily printable. If you can find a way to get them to neatly come out on one side of A4 -- great! I think that the printing from Firefox works pretty well with portrait for chart 1, and landscape for chart 2 using the GIF 100s. Alternatively you can download a PDF version of the chart which although is lower quality will print on one side of A4. The filesizes are strange.
The numbers next to the GIF versions indicate the resolution of them in pixels per inch. The HTML just offers the GIF version but at a set size, it uses the GIF 100. For any given version number the content on each of the formats is (or at least should be) absolutely identical. Custom formats are available on request.
The charts were created using Macromedia Fireworks, the conversions were done using CutePDF. The latest version of chart 1 is 0.1.2 which corrects 0.1.1 changing the amine to an amide. Version 0.1.1 added a line from Aldehydes to Carboxylic Acids. All previous versions are available here. Chart 2 is in version 0.1.0, with no previously published versions.
