| UPDATES TO MAY WEEK PLANNER | 104 / January 31, 2009, 6:16 pm | | I've added links to the side of the May Week Planner. Now you can see where has got tickets left, where's accepting applications for workers etc. edit |
| MAY WEEK PLANNER | 103 / January 27, 2009, 11:16 pm | Struggling to think about May Week? Finding it difficult to remember who's going where and who's working at what?
Here's my solution: the May Week Calendar. edit |
| OCCUPATION POLL | 102 / January 27, 2009, 11:05 pm | In association with my work for The Forum with Alasdair Parkes including creating their website, I've just created a poll to see how much support the demands of those occupying the law faculty have amongst the student body.
If you have a raven account then you can register your opinion here. edit |
| NIRALA CURRY REVIEW LIVE | 100 / January 18, 2009, 3:15 pm | | I've just put up the review for Nirala which is where we went last Sunday. Details for this week are starting to emerge too. 20.30 in EC2. edit |
| NEW CURRY REVIEW | 98 / November 10, 2008, 12:23 am | After nearly six months with no word from the curry club we're back with another review. And it's a belter. Read the full Curry Queen Review now...
Thank you to everyone who came along. edit |
| AUSTRALIA PAGES LIVE | 97 / June 29, 2008, 2:48 am | Right, this is my last update before I head for Australia. I've finished the status website which will be taking over Davyson.com from today onwards.
The rest of Davyson.com will be accessible from a link at the bottom. And the normal homepage will return when I return.
See you soon! edit |
| NOTE TO SELF | 96 / June 26, 2008, 4:26 pm | | Must do the cartoons before I go away... edit |
| BREAKING - ANDYS COLLAR BONE | 95 / June 26, 2008, 11:30 am | An injuries press release.
I broke my collar bone playing cricket on Sunday. Not good. Bit I've had a sling and pain killers. 'appy dayz edit |
| TRIPOS RESULTS | 94 / June 25, 2008, 10:45 pm | Holiday update! You can now add your tripos results on the appropriate page.
I have no idea what anyone got except for the few people who got results through in May Week. How did everyone else do?
Add your tripos results here... edit |
| AUSTRALIA PREVIEW LIVE | 93 / June 17, 2008, 1:33 pm | Lizzie is in Perth so it is only right that the Australia project gets well underway.
I've put a preview of what's to come online. More soon. edit |
| MOGHUL TANDOORI REVIEW ADDED | 91 / May 22, 2008, 5:23 pm | "After the new meeting place was found and the doorbell rang, all the participants reclined in Fran's luxurious room, recounting curry tales of yore and generally bantering about previous experiences before leaving for the mythological 'Moghul Tandoori'. It was only a name... but what a name..."

| SPECIAL CURRY NIGHT - WARKWORTH | 90 / May 17, 2008, 7:32 pm | I thought, this week, as Sophie and I always leave loads of mess for you Blantyre people to clear up, I would offer Warkworth as the Curry munching site this week.
Obviously it wouldn't be quite the same, as it's not as close to Mill Road etc but let me know if you'd fancy a change - Fran's well up for it too. edit |
| TAKEAWAY TONIGHT | 87 / May 11, 2008, 4:35 pm | There will be a takeaway later on this evening. Starting at the slightly later time of 9.45 pm.
Room 29 as always. Turnout is currently completely up in the air... I've no idea who's coming.
On the plus side I've finally got round to updating the takeaways page. We're missing loads of reviews but we now have the ability to take punter comments and ratings.
edit |
| BLANTYRE FIRE ALARM OUTRAGE | 83 / May 11, 2008, 10:28 am | Blantyre residents are today waking up after an interrupted night's sleep and are expecting a full apology.
The fire alarm went off twice before 8 am this morning. Outrageous! edit |
| TAKEAWAY TOMORROW | 82 / May 10, 2008, 5:13 pm | | Although Andy will not be there from the beginning we're still going ahead with a takeaway tomorrow night. More details shortly. edit |
| A FEW MORE TEXT TWEAKS | 79 / May 7, 2008, 8:21 pm | I've furtherly tweaked the new texts website. The pages for individual people have been redesigned - as have the individual text pages.
I've also added some stats about how many texts we've got in total. edit |
| RODEO DRESS CODE | 77 / May 7, 2008, 4:35 pm | There was some controversy at the latest takeaway about the dress code for Emma's June Event - Rodeo. This climaxed with James Rees receiving a text from Richard Hamilton (Infrastructure) indicating that "nope" it was not a black tie event.
Unfortunately it was still not clear what the dress code actually is.
Today I received this message direct from the June Event President, Stephanie Warrillow:
"The dress code for the event is deliberately non-specific, since people tend to wear what they like. As a guide, boys generally wear jeans and shirt/smart t-shirt, girls often wear summer skirts and tops. However, anything from fancy dress to ball gowns/DJs is acceptable!"
So there are options. And options mean decisions... Oh no. edit |
| BREAKING NEWS CAUGHT BY DAVYSON.COM | 75 / May 6, 2008, 11:45 pm | Earlier on this afternoon me and Andy caught the very early signs of the story that has evolved into "Gunman shot dead in armed siege" headline on the BBC website.
We were too busy to make a posting but we were first with this massive news. Honest. edit |
| MUSIC CHART | 74 / May 4, 2008, 9:20 pm | Andy's uncovered a fantastic list of top selling abums in the UK.
Some fantastic albums in there including number 94 at 1.7 million - Pink's Misunderstood.
Read it all. edit |
| TAKEAWAYS WILL GO ON | 73 / May 1, 2008, 3:49 pm | I just want to reiterate thast despite injury the takeaways will go on. To prove this point me and Andy went to Carlos's yesterday (picture on previous visit).
Sunday service is of course continuing as per usual. edit |
| ANDY INJURED | 72 / May 1, 2008, 1:50 am | Andy has been injured in a sports accident. On Tuesday at cricket practice a ball struck his ankle which has since swollen significantly. Andy has undergone medical examination and the conclusion was that luckily there has been no break to the bone.
Andy is currently to be found hobbling around room 29. He's drugged up and all importantly set to miss a good few weeks of the cricket season. Not to mention RT. edit |
| MORE HOMEPAGE CHANGES | 71 / April 24, 2008, 1:21 am | | I've played a bit with some CSS and added my name to the title image to spice up the homepage a little. I quite like it. edit |
| TAKEAWAY REVIEWS WORK STARTED | 70 / April 22, 2008, 10:50 pm | I've started to prepare for a new version of the Takeaway Reviews page. This new edition will allow for users to add their own comments as well as to vote on the star rating the takeaway will get.
I'm not dedicating much time to this and I imagine it could be next week before it's done. In the meantime I've had to take the old takeaway page down. edit |
| FIRST TAKEAWAY | 69 / April 20, 2008, 10:19 am | Tonight from 21.30 in room 29 we've got the biggest Sunday night takeaway yet.
Confirmed guests are: Andy, Berni, James, Sam, Lizzie (B), Lizzie (D), Nick & Sophie. Hopefuls are: Joe, Big Rich, Alex + More.
Should be the biggest yet. edit |
| WELCOME BACK | 68 / April 20, 2008, 10:15 am | | The final few arrive back today. Welcome. Lets get this term started. edit |
| NICK IS GOING TO MIT | 67 / April 16, 2008, 11:53 pm | Nick got into the MIT exchange. This means that he'll be spending third year in the USA!
Massive congratulations to Nick. See our celebratory page.
He will definitely be back for a fourth year. edit |
| LAST PLUG: BACK TO CAM | 66 / April 15, 2008, 2:32 am | Thanks to everyone who has added their name to the Back to Cam page. It is looking really nice.
Anyone who still isn't back can add their name here. edit |
| LIBRARY SHIFTS | 65 / April 11, 2008, 6:00 pm | I'm going to be in the library from 7.30 pm until 10 pm everyday until Saturday 19th April.
That's nine days starting tonight. edit |
| GRAND ARCADE REVIEW | 64 / April 8, 2008, 1:53 pm | Nick Flynn writes:
"Grand arcade. It lives up to the name. Very grand. Lots of jewellery shops, a big apple store and all the usual big names. Too big to explore in one afternoon."
Send in your reaction...

| A LEVEL REQUESTS | 63 / April 7, 2008, 3:14 pm | I'm going to be adding some new content to the A Level pages within the next couple of days if I get chance. I need your requests. So far lots of votes for:
- Chemistry Unit 1 Cards
- Chemistry Unit 6 Notes
- Physics Formula Sheets

| MORE REAL TENNIS NEWS | 62 / April 5, 2008, 12:08 am | Andrew Smith writes:
"Tonight (friday 4th april) at cambridge university real tennis club, emmanuel college beat pembroke college by an overall score of 20-15 games."
(Text link) edit |
| NEXT SITE NEARLY COOKED | 59 / March 29, 2008, 1:05 am | My next paid project is nearly finished. I've been working a bit on it today. I imagine it will go live in within a week.
I'm currently finalising the interface for the content management system that runs behind it. More on this soon. edit |
| REAL TENNIS RESULT | 58 / March 29, 2008, 1:03 am | Andrew Smith writes:
"ive got a real tennis press release to go out on all channels. last night at cambridge university real tennis club, emmanuel narrowly lost to magdalene college in the 1st cuppers game by an overall score of 21 games to 18."
(Text link) edit |
| SLIGHT HOMEPAGE TWEAKS | 57 / March 25, 2008, 8:30 pm | | I've made some tweaks to the homepage design. New background colours. Should be adding comments to this soon... edit |
| A LEVEL SITE BEING RESPARKED | 56 / March 25, 2008, 3:41 pm | I'm starting to pull all the content from the Archive over into the new A Level pages. I've changed the homepage picture to reflect the change in style that's coming up.
I'd imagine a full release will be ready within a week. edit |
| RECENTLY ADDED PANE ON DAVYSONUB | 55 / March 21, 2008, 1:56 pm | | I've added a pane to the DavysoNub homepage with "Recently Added" commands. It is a virtual browsing history for me since I'm the only user and every site I go to I'm adding to the list. edit |
| LINKS FOR AUSTRALIA | 54 / March 20, 2008, 8:18 pm | I'm using DavysoNub to keep track of some links for Australia. The aus command lists all entries with "Australia" in.
More about how DavysoNub can be useful when I've upgraded it's preformance.
The full Australia section should be live soon. edit |
| O2 BLUEBOOK | 53 / March 18, 2008, 1:13 pm | Why has no-one told me about O2 Bluebook? This is what I've been looking for for ages. If I wasn't on O2 now then I would switch just to get this service.
It is a full online, searchable, permanent and *automatic* backup of text messages both sent and received! How good is that!
Signing up confused me initially but you need to reregister even if you are already an O2 online customer. Do that here. Then you are good to go. It only works for messages that you send or receive after you register so do that ASAP... after that just watch them flood in.
There is a storage limit. And it is 1 GB. And I don't think I'll ever reach it. It is of the order of 1 million texts. edit |
| FINISHED WEB DESIGN PAGE | 52 / March 15, 2008, 5:12 pm | | I've finished making a portfolio of my web design work. Please do give it a glance. It illustrates what I'm capable of making and how you can get it touch to have me make your site. edit |
| DAVYSONUB PROBLEMS | 51 / March 12, 2008, 10:57 pm | The trouble with DavysoNub at the minute is that it is s-l-o-w. This is because it has to poll a MySQL database to find out what the command means. I've just though of caching all of this command information as javascripts i.e. One script per command.
The scripts could be rewrote each time you add a new command. And then DavysoNub would be lightning fast (no server requests - well maybe one...) edit |
| ADDRESS BAR BAN | 50 / March 12, 2008, 10:53 pm | | How many sites do you use? I've got rid of my address bar for the moment and I'm just using DavysoNub to navigate. If I need to go to a new site I'll make a new command... edit |
| WORK AROUND SITE | 49 / March 12, 2008, 2:00 pm | I've done some work on DavysoNub. It's now got an improved UI and better standard functions. ls (search term) lists functions nicely.
I've also started to build the web design page. That will be finished off soon. View the current state of it here. edit |
| CURRY GARDEN REVISITED | 47 / March 10, 2008, 2:31 pm | Last night after a fair voting procedure choosing between three brand new takeaways we rubbished the results and returned to our favourite: Curry Garden (previous review).
There's no new review live yet but we've recruited Lizzie Davis to write it up. The final review will feature comments from all 8 people that took part. Stay tuned. edit |
| UPDATED ALEX WHITE CONTENT | 46 / March 9, 2008, 9:19 pm | Fresh content from the genius that is Alex White is now live on the all new Alex White page.
These are brilliant musings. It's clear there is a lot going on "under the hood". Maybe if he spent less time thinking and paid more attention to day to day goings on he'd remember to switch off his phone in the theatre... edit |
| ALEX WHITE HAD A WASP | 45 / March 9, 2008, 8:47 pm | As the countdown to tonights takeaway continues a reminder of goings on yesterday: Alex White had a wasp in his room.
Joe found him with a squash racket trying to fend it off. Alex claims to have succeeded in getting it out of his room. Hats off to him. edit |
| KOHINOOR REVIEW SOON | 44 / March 9, 2008, 5:13 pm | | The review of the Kohinoor is still not posted. Apologies. It will be live shortly. edit |
| CURRY STAR RATINGS | 43 / March 6, 2008, 12:13 pm | | Just to be fully open we are changing one of the star ratings for the curry houses that we've been reviewing. Curry Queen is moving from 3.5 to 3 stars. This change reflects a redefinition of standards made after sampling Golden Curry. edit |
| TWO NEW REVIEWS | 42 / March 5, 2008, 2:56 am | Golden Curry is finally live along with the brand new Istanbul review. Mixed feelings on these two places! One got 3.5 stars and the other only got 1...
The release of these two reviews coincides with a massive upgrade to the reviews system. I've changed it from being entirely static to a dynamic (database driven) page. This makes it easier to write the reviews and easier for new features to be added too. The only change you'll see right now is individual pages for each review. edit |
| LIVE UPDATES? | 41 / March 4, 2008, 12:19 pm | | Will the Australia pages have live updates? I'm not sure. I don't think so. They will serve as a planning tool and a way of seeing where I'm at. It is possible that I'll update it with some live text. edit |
| FINAL STAGES FOR CARTOONS | 40 / March 4, 2008, 12:17 pm | Reaching the end of the development cycle for the cartoons website. It needs updating with this week's cartoon and some text needs replacing. Apart from that I believe it is ready for primetime.
This will be my third site release for a client. edit |
| GOLDEN CURRY REVIEW | 38 / March 3, 2008, 4:24 pm | We went to the Golden Curry yesterday. We'll have a review up shortly. Sometime later on tonight hopefully.
A new page on FLFs will be up tonight too starting with a review of the German Classic 'Run Lola Run'. edit |
| TOMMY WATSON PICTURE LIVE | 37 / March 3, 2008, 4:22 pm | | I've just updated the Carlos review with an image of Tom. Thanks to Andy for sending it to me. edit |
| CARLOS REVIEW ADDED | 36 / February 28, 2008, 3:37 am | | "The Tommy Watson Review" is now live. It is up a little late and covers our trip to Carlos's with Big Rich, Sophie and special guest Tommy Watson. edit |
| BALLOT PAGE OPEN | 35 / February 26, 2008, 7:11 am | I'm very pleased to announce that the balloting page is now online. It is pretty nifty! It should be updated all through the day today.
Check it out here. edit |
| 80S NIGHT | 34 / February 26, 2008, 1:32 am | | Monday night is 80s night. Brilliant stuff in 29 from about midnight onwards edit |
| EXTRA LIBRARY SHIFT | 33 / February 25, 2008, 9:03 pm | | I'll be doing the shift on Monday 3rd March as well as the usual Thursday shift on the 6th. Three shifts in total left this term for me. edit |
| AUSTRALIA PAGES | 31 / February 25, 2008, 2:32 pm | | This site will provide an organisational tool for the trip as well as serving to inform others about what's going off. Expect something media rich... Full details will be published soon. edit |
| BALLOTING TOMORROW | 30 / February 25, 2008, 2:29 pm | | Finally balloting begins tomorrow! 2.30 for the most exciting part (mid-to-late 70s). All the news will be on here of course. Updating live all day. edit |
| CURRY QUEEN VISIT | 29 / February 25, 2008, 2:20 pm | | We've done the visit to Curry Queen. Review should be up shortly. For the record this is also the day when Andy lost an hour (and then got it back) and the night we watched Run Lola Run. edit |
| TIME TO BE HEARD STATS | 28 / February 24, 2008, 10:38 pm | | I havent got any news from my client for Time To Be Heard which I suppose is probably good news. I took a look at the stats earlier on and it seems to be doing well in terms of traffic. Nothing massive but plenty... edit |
| CARTOONS SITE NEARLY UP | 27 / February 24, 2008, 7:54 pm | I've been working more on the cartoons website. It should be live within the next few weeks. I just need some more cartoons to play with...
Any time soon Dad... anytime soon. edit |
| BLANTYRE MAP ADDED | 26 / February 24, 2008, 7:49 pm | | I've added the Blantyre Map to the Cambridge directory. It is the perfect place to choose your room now. Whether you're a first year or a second year. edit |
| EVERARD DAVY CARTOON SITE | 25 / February 12, 2008, 10:26 pm | I'm currently building a cartoon website for my dad, Everard Davy. It is set at EverardDavy.com and will include all of his cartoons as seen in the Sheffield Telegraph.
I'm working on the front design and the back end at the same time. It should end up being MySQL powered with heavy caching but easy editing. Wish me luck! edit |
| ZING ZANG ZING | 24 / February 12, 2008, 8:09 pm | | RSS is getting even better! I've now got a php script generating my RSS feed. I now just have to hook that up to the front page. Brilliant. edit |
| FEEDBURNER SORTING OUT RSS | 23 / February 12, 2008, 7:30 pm | I am happy to announce that my RSS problems are over and now I seem to have got this blog syndicating correctly. I've still got the massive issue of whether to use this blog (and expand on my own format) or to employ WordPress to drive it. I think I will go for WordPress in the end but it will be a lot of work to make it all fit right. We'll see.
Also: I've adjusted the width of things on the site to reflect non-widescreen PCs. I'm using 900px now. If that doesn't fit on your screen let me know. edit |
| QUOTE FOR TODAY | 22 / February 11, 2008, 3:02 pm | Xith: I didn't know shit could be digitaly transfered
UPC747|Rob: yeah
BouncyFish: It's called the internet.

| TIME TO BE HEARD UPDATE; THINGS TO DO | 21 / February 2, 2008, 2:11 pm | I've just found Time To Be Heard on page 8 of a Google Search for "counselling sheffield". Now that isn't bad. Timetobeheard.co.uk is 2 links from the top result on Google for "counselling sheffield" and since Google hasn't crawled the site since it has been furtherly optimised I can only think this ranking will increased. I'll keep my eyes peeled.
Things I need to do... LOTS! edit |
| UPDATE ON SITE PROGRESS | 20 / February 2, 2008, 12:48 pm | Things are moving fairly slowly since I seem to be too busy to really do any development. I'm quite liking this though since it means I have plenty of time to change my mind on design issues and think about how I really want it to be. I think my main problem is that I want a defined structure but I don't want anything that restricts the way that content can be presented. I think the way round this is to have a structure that is not necessarily always explicit but due to the way the presentation is consistent navigation will be obvious.
Improvements to by own blog format are obviously also required like the RSS bug correction, on the fly image uploads, and category implementation. I think with categories I'm going for broad things like family, site news, and standard blog. I can then remix these on the homepage but keep them separate elsewhere. I do not want to use WordPress in the final design. edit |
| ANDREW SMITH LOVES IT | 18 / January 24, 2008, 11:31 pm | Andrew Smith has today said he "loves the new project and the direction that it is heading in". This comes as great news as more and more time is being spent turning this prototype into a working reality.
Stay tuned for regular updates. edit |
| UPDATE ON NEW DESIGN | 17 / January 24, 2008, 2:19 am | I'm working hard to bring more pages into the new design. I like the way things are looking. The site is structured but not overly structured. There is a directory like style to the way things are organised but it feels free enough for it to be allowed to break at any point.
The back end is great too. Working with PHP more than ever the themes are essentially one switch and the whole site should be updatable with relative ease. I'll move over the entire A Level section very soon. The tricky bit is going to be rewiring the PHP interfaces for the revision cards etc. No job too big though! edit |
| GOING TO AUSTRALIA | 16 / January 24, 2008, 12:40 am | Yes I am going to Australia! Wow. It all happened rather quickly and not too much is organised but the flights booked. I'll be flying to Adelaide on the 30th June and returning on 5th August. Lizzie will meet me in Adelaide and we're coming back on the same flight.
It all seems a little bizarre. But also lots of fun. Only 5 months to go. edit |
| NEW DESIGN | 15 / January 23, 2008, 2:44 pm | | There are going to be various changes to how things look on the site starting very shortly.
I will be phasing out hover links and introducing more helpful and standard link colourings. I'll also be
building a fixed width site, with a white background. It seems an odd place to copy from but I want to draw
a lot of the design traits of the Obvious Corp blog into my website. I find that immensely readable and I think it looks classy. edit |
| SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT | 14 / January 23, 2008, 2:40 pm | Joe Travis has been dishing out the big facts today on Student Loans. Interest rates may very well be up, and up by a lot. But hang on to your Student Loan says Mr Travis. In a statement today in Emmanuel College, Cambridge he said: "It's still the best loan you are going to get. I've still got my student loan." He predicts that rates will have fallen back down by next year.
On a related note last day for College bills to be done is today. Do it! edit |
| WEBSITE LARGELY DOWN | 13 / January 22, 2008, 12:17 pm | I'm seeing some bugs from the front of the website. Pages don't seem to be loading correctly and I've got problems with my bespoke editor, and WordPress. This comes at a time when I'm playing with the idea of revamping the entry experience to the site. This notes page might play a big role.
Stay tuned. edit |
| RESPARKING NOTES SITE | 12 / January 6, 2008, 1:10 pm | | I'm relaunching this part of the site. It was a useful diary type tool. The original project that it was used to tackle is over. And it was successful. And now I want to use it to monitor my spending. Watch out. edit |
| MORE PROJECTS | 11 / August 4, 2007, 12:38 pm | | It has been a while since I have written on here. But now I think is an appropriate time. I will have a full update at a later stage but for now... I have started work on two brand new pages for the website. They are going to be about Red Bull alternatives and also about how you can never lose Noughts and Crosses ever again if you just follow a few simple steps. edit |
| THINGS TO DO | 10 / July 18, 2007, 8:30 am | | Washing. Freecycle things. Change towels in bathroom. Pack for moving out. Finish project. edit |
| PROJECT STATUS - GOOD | 9 / July 17, 2007, 3:04 pm | | The project is coming along well. I have only done the first two bits of it and there are maybe 10 more that require similar amounts of time but I think through working on it later today and tomorrow I can almost certainly get it done in time. It really needs to be finished fully by midday on Wednesday to give me time to press it. Then I can package everything together and take it with me on Wednesday evening. That sort of timescale while tricky... is doable. edit |
| A JOB, WELL MAYBE | 8 / July 17, 2007, 2:56 pm | Had the interview. It was quite a way away but I walked it - it must have taken about 1 and a half hours. The interview consisted only of a test to see how quickly and accurately you could input data. You had to score more than 4500 digits per hour. I managed to get scores of 4600, 5000, and 5300. So all passes. Following that I had to fill out a few forms and that was it. The man said that I would be put on a list of people called "his training list". Then when his client said they had a training day coming up then he would draft me in for three days work or so. Travel expenses would be covered to Rotherham.
He said the next days were coming up in August. I guess I'll just have to wait until then...
Meanwhile two more sales - one really large book (going to cost £7.50 to post) and a small one that cost 83p (I have posted that). Still no sign of any payments from Amazon and I don't have that sort of ready cash available so the large book will have to wait for the moment.
Finances are generally looking up though. £50 coming through from Amazon. £20 owed to parents (but probably will not need to be paid immediately). £35 phone bill coming out soon. This leaves me with hardly any (but some) cash to live off. Also coming up is £132 from Newcastle University which could come it at the end of this month. Of that £100 will go to Beth which should give me a bit to live from and a bit towards my next phone bill.
But by the time that comes out I should have done a few days data input work which might give me £120 or so. I'm thinking it is all probably going to work out ok. edit |
| TOWN TRIP | 7 / July 16, 2007, 3:47 pm | Posted out 4 Amazon items today. Total income on them: £28. Total expenditure on the postage: £16. Profit: £12. Not great at all - especially when all of the books I posted are definitely worth more than £3 each. One of the items costs £8 to post. I think I made a loss on that... I have removed one of my other listings for a cheap but heavy book. I am only selling books that are heavy for more than a tenner. The money will be transferred to my account by snail bank transfer... meaning that it will maybe next monday. When it does arrive (£28), £20 goes straight to my dad for the posting. So I'll have £8. I need a job.
Also in town today I managed to complete the #secret project# although that proved to be rather more expensive than I could have hoped for. It is good though. The completed project does still look a little thin on the ground and I am now considering adding maybe some extra item to lift it a little. A little book maybe with *stuff* in that applies. I am not sure how I can do this on such a tight budget. But I'm sure I can find a way. edit |
| POSSIBLE PROJECTS | 6 / July 14, 2007, 5:37 pm | Since I am currently unemployed, and I have until October off... it is about time I got myself a decent project to do. Ideally it would be profitable, but that is not at all essential. I have applied for many jobs already and I'm just waiting to see what happens on that front.
I have a few ideas of things that I could do. Firstly I could redesign the whole of my website into some new unified theme. Or I could try and make more things out of PHP to practice my skills with MySQL. I wouldn't mind building a general MySQL editor. Since all of my PHP applications so far seem to simply revolve around adding things and deleting things from databases, if I could generalise the procedure so I could make my own simpler syntax to carry out procedures then it would improve everything I built. Alternatively as a project I could try and sort out the computers at home. The home networking solution at present is far from ideal, and Microsoft Office has oddly vanished from one of the machines.
Finally, and probably the best solution for my future I could start to look at physics in order to ready myself for study next year. Just because I am not going to be tested on this years content any time soon, it doesn't mean that revision in that vein would not be helpful towards next years work. edit |
| AN INTERVIEW | 4 / July 14, 2007, 4:32 pm | | I have got an interview for a job entering data into computers on Tuesday next week. I have not had an interview since my one to get into Cambridge... so I am a little nervous. The job is only temporary - which is what I need - and is only 1 or 2 days work a month. The pay is reasonable but not great. If I were to get the job then I would be getting somewhere between £40 and £80 a month. This would certainly be a help but by no means is it going to pay off my overdraft. edit |
| HOME AGAIN | 3 / July 14, 2007, 3:41 pm | | I am back home and I am finding it difficult to find things to do. I am still on the look out for a summer job but it is looking less and less likely that I am going tobe able to find one. I have started to look at other ways of making money... which I rather desperately need right now. I am selling some books on Amazon for fractions of their real value. 13 items up. No sales so far. I have £1.94 left in my bank account. And £1.10 in my wallet. Tomorrow I think I will use all of it in finishing a #secret project#. Then I have nothing. Only problem is that I haven't got any cash at all to send any Amazon items off if they sell that is... edit |
| SUMMER JOBS | 2 / July 13, 2007, 4:51 pm | | I am seeking employment at the moment. I have made numerous applications but so far have had no success. This is deeply worrying. edit |
