Snapfish Update: I’m Collecting My Free Prints Today

I’m heading into town today to see if I can pick up the free prints that I ordered. If so it is important to note that I Have not paid a penny to HP or Snapfish for them. Lets see if it works. More details of the offer on the original post.

Mercury Taxis

If you live in the Sheffield area then if you call 2662662 and then key 1 a taxi will be at your door as soon as possible. The only snag is you have to do it from a landline phone so Mercury Taxis know where to send the taxi. If you hold (and don’t key 1) then you can talk to an operator to configure a larger taxi, or a taxi for a different time / address.

It’s a really clever service.

Stu.dicio.us Update Coming Soon

Stu.dicio.us everyone’s favourite note taking website is getting a major overhaul in the next few weeks. I have made a few notes on it so far but right now it does have some limitations. I look forward to what the new release brings.

Keep your eyes on blog.dicio.us for more.

Feedback For stu.dicio.us Creators

Wow! I just found this really neat tool for students to keep track of notes that they make. It is called stu.dicio.us and it most certainly looks like they are in the opening stages of release. Right now you have to make your notes public if you use the service and there is no “About Us” or “Contact Us” link anywhere on the site. Which is why I am having to resort to a blog post to pass this message to them.

stu.dicio.us

The interface is beautifully simple. I mean it is just like you want it to be. Zero tolerance for any clutter of any description. The todos are particularly well done, you can add them for a specific class of yours and then they appear in the list sorted by date. Clicking them crosses them out - i.e. done, and alt-clicking deletes them. Todos created in days gone by don’t show up which is a shame, but perhaps it makes sense. I think the ones that you don’t do should roll over to the next day, since we are talking about students doing this with the stuff they have to do is often possible. The other side of the screen is all about notes which you have to enter in a box that I would claim is a tad small but apart from that it is really great. You can just write a few littel tidbits about the lesson that you have had, or that you are due to have. I would prefer the notes to work more like a diary personally with some arrangement for recording the date on them too and having an overflow system for when the frontpage explodes with notes (i.e. after about a month of usage).

All in all though it is nice and I think that I will use it. Please though add a feedback link!

Set 4 - The Web Riddle

Set 4I have just finished the script that is going to put levels 13 - 16 live on Wednesday 28th June at 4 PM BST. This is what the gateway will look like. It has been a tricky job to write this latest set. And as you can see I’ve been helped by numerous people on its way to completion. Splasho contributed an entire level. Probably the best level in the set. Very applaudable. Rob, Ribrob, and Ammar, all played their usual roles telling me when to stop working at an idea, telling me when something was terrible, telling me when more clues were needed and all that. They rarely saw full levels just snippets. Ken and Lina both travelled the full length of the set, with Lina doing an extra level that has now been removed. Ken mocked up an entire new version of one level and helped out with sorting out technical issues with another. Trevor supplied the idea for the last part of the last level, for which I am very grateful. Many thanks to everyone involved.

So if you are a riddler, I hope you enjoy. It is set 4 of the web riddle, and it is coming to you on Wednesday.

I originally said that Ribrob would be writing the whole of set 3. But then that sort of never happened. He may be writing set 5 perhaps jointly with myself. We will have to see. Rest assured set 5 will be out much sooner than you expect.

Note: Set 4 is only open to those that have done set 3, you’ll find the link appearing on the last page of set 3 at said time. If you are new to riddle then it is not too late to start jump right in.

Zoho Show is Incredible

Picture 51.png
As Arvind commented on the previous Zoho post, Zoho have just released their newest product. They fill the final whole they had in their office set, and release a slideshow tool: ZohoShow. And boy they have done a terrific job. It is like nothing I have seen before. It makes Writely look like a typewriter and puts Google Spreadsheets to shame on pure desktop feel and usability. But wait. They aren’t powerpoint products, lets be fair and compare like to like. How does it compare with ThumbStacks? It basically buries it.

Now I will be the first to admit that they have probably taken a lot of Thumbstacks in the producing of this tool. The Flickr integration idea for images is very similar, as is the overall UI. But ZohoShow beats ThumbStacks for the overall implementation. It is much slicker, and much more desktopy. I actually feel that it may be easier to make slideshows using this tool that in Powerpoint. I think that speaks volumes.

If you want to give it a quick feel then there is a demo account so you can try it in one click, or you can fill out four fields and register for an account. I would seriously urge you to. But say you are even lazier than that. Just click here to check the very quick presentation I made about the service. Thank you very much Zoho, you continue to raise the bar in the very competitive word of web office. Things are getting better and better.

Opera 9 Released

And now here comes another big browser upgrade. I am all over the place right now with browsers. Firefox is the default but I was very into Flock when I first saw that and I think Safari looks nice and now… Opera 9.

I was just about to switch it to the default and blog about it when I loaded up WordPress and everything seemed to go wrong. I will have to look into whether this is persistent. The facts though as crystal clear. Opera is fast, feature rich, and nice to look it. I think I’ll go for it.

Ze Frank is Not To Be Missed

Ze FrankZe Frank is a real gem. Every weekday on “the show” he produces a short video which is uploaded to his site at around 6 pm BST. Yes it’s a videoblog. Whilst it originally focused on news and particularly politics with the growing following of “Sports Racers” that it has collected the content of the shows is becoming ever more diverse, and of course more entertaining. There is still the backdrop of the days events in news but there is also much more wacky activity up front. And he continues to come up with new clever and funny things. He launched an Earth Sandwich contest asking for viewers to lay a piece of bread on the ground (which many did) and to try to organise someone else to lay a piece of bread on the ground simultaneously at the opposite side of the world. Two very devoted fans actually did this with the second piece being laid down in Spain. Ze has asked for the viewers to write an episode using a Wiki which became Fabuloso Friday and is now set to become a regular feature every few weeks or so.

It is so popular that the comments are absolutely wild. Towards the top is just a series of messages saying “Am I first?”. It has been noted by some comment authors that these posts are written before the time required to allow the video to run has elapsed. Ze is continually amusing and almost always has a couple of really funny bits every day. I happen to think that the episode of the 16th June was one of his best ever.
